Shortage of Scriptures

Partly caused by the wholesaledestruction during the war and the stringent restrictions on publication and distribution, the immediate need of Scriptures is 25,000,000 copies. A statement by the British and Foreign Bible Society says Churches in Indonesia and Burma have been waiting several years for a new edition of the Scriptures and other Churches are awaiting the first edition of a Gospel in the vernacular. There are 35 translations which the society has not yet been able to print and publish. The wave of evangelism in South America has resulted in a very big increase in distribution, but the demand is much greater than the supply. All the Bible presses in England expect to supply this year only one-third of the school Bibles needed and similar limitations exist for every edition.
