Highly Successful Sports Meeting At Manawahe
Record entries in all classes were received for the annual meeting by the Manawahe Sports Committee at Manawahe on Saturday. A large crowd attended from all over the district and made it one of the most successful sports meetings yet held. The weather held fine for most of
the day and rain interrupted only once with a very slight shower, early in the afternoon. Possibly the most popular event, the chopping, drew many spectators and the competition in this and the horse section provided close and at times, exciting finishes. The chopping was controlled by the Rangitaiki Axemen’s Association. The Manawahe local chop was well won by R. A. Rendall, who received a cup. In the . evening a highly successful dance rounded off the meeting when trophies were presented. Over £IOO is expected to be made.
Half of it will go to the sports com-
mittee and the remainder will be divided amongst the school committee for a swimming bath, the Women’s Institute and for parcels for Britain. Results:—
