Kowhai W.I. Has Good Meeting
The monthly meeting of the Kowhai Women’s Institute was held on Tuesday evening, March 8, when a good attendance of members and prospective members were present.
Following ‘the monthly routine business, the first annual meeting was held. Mrs K. Armstrong, president of the District Federation, presided over the meeting, and congratulated members on the prqgress made and the results attained during the .Institute’s first year of operation. Following a ballot, Mrs M. Cooper president for the coming year.
For-the Golden Thread Mrs Cooper chose as her subject an article from the Readers’ Digest, entitled “Green Buds of Hiroshima.” Monthly competitions:—
Shoulder spray: Miss Fife 1, Miss Sutcliffe 2, Mrs Haverbier 3. Illustrated song: Mrs Patterson 1, Miss Sutcliffe 2, Mrs Drayson 3. The special prize for aggregate points gained in the over the year was won by Miss Sutcliffe.
Supper was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Herbison, Miller and Timbs; and the singing of the “Ode to Friendship”. brought the meeting to a close.
The first birthday of the Institute is to be celebrated at the April meeting and will, be in the form of a social evening.
