BUILDING DISPUTE HAS KINDLY SIDE
Clear evidence that, though the employers and the Unions, as organisations, are disputing hotly, the friendly human relationships between employers and ex-employees i have not been disturbed in many i cases is given by this letter received by an Auckland carpenter from a director of a big building firm for which ‘he used to work:
“Owing to the dispute between the Carpenters’ Union aq,d the Builders’ Association taking so long to -settle, this firm does not want to see anyone with sickness or any of its employees’ children suffering hardship. If you are in difficulties in' this respect, or know of one of our old hands who is, will you let us know, and will do our best to help.”
That employer was one of those who shook hands with all his- men when paying them off and said he hoped to see them back when the dispute was settled.
