EDGECUMBE CHOPS DRAW VISITORS OF TOP CLASS
The Rangitaiki Axemen’s Club, held its second annual carnival* on' Saturday and drew a large crowd, and.a good field of competitors. A good grogramme had been arranged. All ages were catered for, the children’s races and the hockey notches each drawing their respective supporters. Mr W. Sullivan, M.P., congratulated and presented the cups to the winners of both chopping events and school championship. R. M. Bartle, of Atiamuri won both the big events, the 21” and 14” chops, keeping perfect lime and style to collect two cups and £IOO in prize money. Old hands pointed him out as a future champion worth watching. / New cups donated were 14” Open Chop, Geo. Syme and Co. Ltd., Edgecumbe; 12” Open Chop, Mr D. G. Hawkins, Edgecumbe; Mr A. B.
