Physical Education Instructresses On Visit To Homeland

Miss Olive Booth, supervisor of secondary physical education for the Education Department in Victoria, and Miss Brenda Bannehr, a physical education. instructor for the same department, have made a short visit to New Zealand before leaving for England. In London, Miss Booth will attend a jubilee refresher course for members of the Ling Physical Education Association, which is celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of its foundation. As delegate representing Australia, Miss Booth \ will attend a congress of the American Association of Physical Education for Girls and Women, which will be held in Copenhagen early in July.

Swedish Anniversary From Denmark, Miss Booth will go to Stockholm, where she will attend the Lingiad, a conference held once every ten years •on the anniversary of the death of Per Henrik Ling, a Swedish medical gymnastic practitioner and a pioneer of Swedish 'medical gymnastics, who was responsible for the founding cf the Royal Gymnastic Central Institute in Stockholm and \yas its first principal.

Miss Booth, who for ten years was on the staff of the Christchurch Technical College, left New Zealand about 11 years ago, and has held her present position for six years. Miss Bannehr formerly lived in Christchurch. Swimming Instruction *

On Tuesday pupils of the Whakatane District High School travelled to Te Puke to receive coaching from three New Zealand champion women swimmers, Misses Ngaire Lane, Hazel Forsyth (Otago), and Miss Betty Casey (Wellington), who are at present touring the country giving swimming instruction. Other high schools from Te Puke, Tauranga, Katikati and Waihi also attended.
