Thornton Y.F.C.’s Annual Meeting

The annual meeting of the Thornton Young Farmers’ Club was held in the Thornton Hall on Monday. Mr A. Martin, past chairman, in his report said that during the past year the club had held sixteen meetings, four extra meetings, four field days and two debates. He aljso thanked the lecturers who had given up their time to address the club on various occasions and, had imparted valuable knowledge to the club members. One of the members, Mr L. A. Broadmore, was successful in winning the stock judging in both the pigs and Friesian cows. In the recent Porker Competition for Y.F. Clubs, over 50 per cent of the pigs entered came from the Thornton Y.F.C.

A letter was received from the Senior Advisory member of the 1 club, Mr A. H. Adajns, who is at ! present in Christchurch, wishing the ; I club every success in the future and j i praising the club for , its activities j j in the oast. i I The Efficiency Badge, sponsored | by the club for its members and j competed for annually, was won by i Mr lan McQueen. ! Mr John Hawkins, of the District 1 Committee, took the chair for the . i election of chairman and later spoke . a few words of advice and criticism j of value to the club, j Election of officers:—Chairman, Mr F. E. J. Broadmore; secretary, Mr L. A. Broadmore; treasurer, Mr D. F. Jones; senior advisory member, Mr A. H. Adams; advisory members, Messrs G. E. Jones and j G. Mexted; auditor, Mr L. Smith; | vice-chairman, Mr J. Mexted: pub- j licity officer, Mr T. Fisher; delegate to P.M.A., Mr G. Walker; delegate to Calf Club, Mr J. Adams. Mr E. R. Marryatt, Secretary of : j the District Committee, then ad- ■ dressed the club and gave some j very helpful advice and explained ■ ! some new ideas and rules. . The evening concluded with supper provided by members. There l were 21 members, present, 9 girls ;. contemplating forming a Country ’ j Girls’ Club in Thornton, and Mr Marryatt and Mr J. Hawkins.
