British Studios To Close-Cutting Costs

As a further step in its policy of increasing film production and at the same time reducing costs, the Rank Organisation will close its Islington Studios early this year. This decision means that, in future, the Group will make more films in fewer studios, leaving additional space available to other producers, including those independents who are now receiving financial assistance from the Government. Approximately 300 employees will be effected when the Islington studios close. Wherever it is practicable, to find productive work, they will be offered positions elsewhere within the Group.
