Good Wintering Of Stock Proved To Be Advantageous

The advantages of wintering stock well were stressed by the superintendent of the Ruakura Animal Research Station, Dr C. P. Mc-Meekan recently. He pointed out that the cow which calved in good condition would give a higher test and higher milk yield for the first three months at least than the cow which calved in poor condition. Experimental work at Ruakura had indicated the advantage of wintering the stock well. A wellwintered group gave 301 b fat more than a poorly wintered group in the first year of the experiment, 601 b more in the second season and last season it was expected that the difference would again work out at about 601 b.
