DISTRICT FARMERS MEET DOMINION PRESIDENT AND SECRETARY: EDGECUMBE GATHERING
Questions relating to the Government’s land settlement scheme, stabilisation, finance and new markets for New Zealand dairy produce were discussed by a meeting of Bay of Plenty farmers at Edgecumbe on Thursday night when they were addressed by Mr W. N. Perry, Dominon president of Federated Farmers, and Mr A. P. O’Shea, Dominion general secretary. The matter of increased finance for the Federation to run its affairs more efficiently was concentrated on by the two speakers.
Mr Perry said it was hoped to raise the subscription to an average of £2/10/- on a sliding scale, each district to work out the scheme it was going 'to adopt.
The advantages of belonging to Federation and all the work it was doing for farmers was outlined 'by Mr O’Shea. He gave examples 'of what could be done if the organisation was strong but to do the work required more money than was now being received. He did not think there would be any objection to raising the subscription when farmers were told the reason why and given all the facts. < * Following some discussion the meeting moved and carried unanimously that the average subscription be raised to £2/10/-.
