Rehab. Loans Now Total Well Into Million Mark

Rehabilitation loans worth £59,*657,780 have been authorised by 74,015 ex-servicemen and women'by the end of January. For the twomonth period December-January 2186 loans were authorised valued at £1,552,267. Loans have been for farms, businesses, houses, furniture tools of trade and other miscellaneous purposes. Loans to purchase farms were increased from 5433 to 5535, which involved finance worth £22,922,540. This includes 750 ex-servicemen settled on Crown lands. The end of January saw housing loans brought to a total of 24,519 worth £28,945,294. There were 710 for December-January, valued at £848,490. There have been 10,363 building loans authorised, worth £-4,830,493 and 14,156 purchase loans worth £14,114,801. The 336 building loans for December-Jan-uary were valued at £482,924 and the 374 purchase loans for the same period entailed £365,568. Included in the total figures to date are 13,723 supplementary loans involving £2,067,932. These supplementary loans are intended to bridge the gap between pre-war prices and presentday costs. Including 9837 who have been allocated State rental houses and the 5a35 who have been placed on farms of tl°ir own, the number of ex-ser-vicemen and women who have been given direct housing assistance through Rehabilitation was 39,891 at the end of January.
