Heavy Seas Along The Coast
Unusual for this time of the year seas off the Bay of Plenty coast have been extraordinarily high. High tides have brought the ocean well up past the usual high water marks and has not been encouraging for fishing from the shore. There appears to be no apparent reason for these heavy seas as there has been little strong wind and few reported storms. At the Whakatane Heads huge breakers have, for the last month, been continually crashing against the rocks. Fishing launches have had to be careful when using the bar.
