Exceptional Tomato From Awakaponga

“You’ve heard about these big tomatoes they’ve been growing up North Auckland, haven’t you?” asked Mr E. D. Bloxham, of Awakaponga, as he stepped into our office yesterday. We admitted we had. Recalled that one had weighed 11b 9oz. “Well, take a look at this,” he said, proudly bowling a huge tomato on to the editor’s desk. “It weighs 11b 9-jj- ounces.” It certainly was a splendid specimen of the Beefsteak breed, smooth, nicely rounded and glowing in the first flush of luscious ripeness. Mr Bloxham said the garden it grew in used to be a cow yard.
