Whakatane Included In Report On Thermal Power

The district about Whakatane has been included in an area stretching from Rotorua to White Island and to Taupo, where large-scale investigation of the potentialities of utilising thermal water for the generation of electricity is to be carried out.

This is the area that has been recommended by the Director of the Geological Survey Department, Dr. A. M. Ongley, and Mr E. R. McKillop, Commissioner of Works, after they had .investigated the Larderello plant in Italy. It has yet to be approved by the Government. The report has been delivered to the Government, through the Minister of Works, Mr Semple, who is said to be greatly impressed by it.
