Gisborne Chamber Of Commerce Pressing For Rail Link
“The completion of the MatawaiTaneatua gap in the GisborneAuckland Railway has been probably the objective on which the chamber has concentrated a great deal of its efforts during the past year but regrets to report no progress to date,” says the annual report of the Gisborne Chamber of Commerce. If one might parody our .great war leader —“never in the history of the chamber has so much effort been spent for so little results.” The chamber has a definite promise from the. Minister that a survey will be made when the requisite personnel is available after sufficient progress has been made on more urgent public works to justify their transfer to this survey. At the moment there. appears very little possibility of this being brought about for several years. The chamber has suggested the importation ! of more skilled personnel for this j and other public works and this the j Minister has promised to investigate. I “The chamber has no intention of j relaxing its pressure on the Minis- | ter to keep him up to his promise even though it may be some time yet before a start can be made with the survey.”
