Ban On Communists Urged By Auckland R.S.A. Executive
Unanimous decision to recommend to the Dominion executive of the N.Z.R.S.A. that the association should bar Communists from membership was -made at a meeting of the executive of the Auckland R.S.A.
The question had come before a previous meeting when a circular was received from the Dominion council with a remit that Communists be debarred from membership of affiliated branches of the N.Z.R.S.A. A good deal of material came with the circular giving steps that had been taken in Australia. The Auckland' president, Mr A. P. Postlewaite, then had consideration deferred to enable the circular to be studied. “We should follow Australia’s lead in toto,” said Mr Eric Halstead. “And all branches of the N.Z.R.S.A. should be advised to do likewise.” He moved the motion adopted by the executive.
