Federated Farmers ' Membership Is Now Close On 48,000
At the end of January, membership of Federated Farmers totalled almost 48,000, says an official statement issued this week. The increase for the last three months was 500 and that for the year 4,100. Over the past two years membership has grown from 37,263 to the present figure of 47,635. Auckland, the largest area, has the biggest membership at 11,787, with Waikato in second place at 5,777. Southland, in third place, has 3,386 members. Every province showed a net increase for the whole year.
Since the Federation was formed in 1945, by the amalgamation of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, the Sheepowners’ Federation and the Dairy Producers’ Association, the membership has increased tremendously for at its foundation the Federation had only some 26,000 registered members.
