Maoris To Welcome Sir Peter Buck At Ruatoki Today

One of the biggest Maori welcomes ever to be held in the Eastern Bay of Plenty will. be staged today by Maoris at Ruatoki when Sir Peter Buck, the eminent Maori scientist, and his wi£e will visit there this afternoon. He is to be accompanied by a party of" other: scientists, numbering about 30. Sir Peter and his party are due to arrive at Ruatoki at noon, -when

-tffe official v/elcome will be held. They will be entertained to lunch and later to a dinner cooked in a Maori hangi. After the visit the party will travel to Opotiki, spending the night there, before proceeding on down the East Coast.

The visiting scientists were originally expected to arrive at 3 p.m. today, but arrangements were later changed for them to be at Ruatoki by noon. Today’s welcome is being filmed by l the National Film Unit.
