Thief Caught On Leaving Hotel With Bed Linen
Caught leaving the Commercial Hotel, Whakatane, on Monday morning with a quantity of the hotel’s bed linen and towels in his possession, Albert Botica, * of Auckland, was later convicted of theft and fined £lO. Constable R. F. Julian, prosecuting before Messrs C. S. Armstrong and C. G. Lucas, J’s.P., said Botica had spent the night at the hotel and had got up about 4 a.m. to help himself to the bed linen from an unoccupied room, and bath mats and towels from the bathrooms. His suspicions ai’oused, the licensee, Mr N. McG. Bremner, had had the man stopped as he was leaving. Botica was also convicted and discharged for stealing a cup and saucer from the Railways refreshment rooms at Tauranga. He was given a month in which to pay the £lO fine on the major charge.
