Longest Tunnel In The World
When an underground explosion took place at the Villege Deep Gold Mine, Johannesburg, some time ago, twenty miners were trapped 5,000 feet down and the main shaft was •put out of action. To reach the men, rescue teams had to go down,a shaft at Crown Miles, some miles away, for the miners were known 8 to be linked up by an underground tunnel. So honeycombed has the Witwatersrand Reef become through mining operations since the first gold strike that it is said to be possible to walk underground from Krugersdorp to Springs, 'a distance of sixty miles.
