The January meeting of the Waimana W.I. Gardening Circle was held at Mrs H. Whiteman’s home, and there was quite a good attendance of members and visitors. Mrs Wylde presided. Mrs R'. Looney gave a most interesting reading on “Grass,” and its many uses, and its great value. A competition arranged by Mrs Whiteman, estimating the number of buttons in a jar, was won by Mrs J. Mitchell, Mrs S| Eagle 2 and Mrs J. King (Whakatane) 3. Each received a packet of flower seeds as prizes. The day’s competitions drew good entries, with the following results: Best flower: Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs Whiteman 2, Mrs Mitchell 3. Best vegetable: Mrs Whiteman 1, Mrs Hewitt 2, Mrs Mitchell 3. Bowl of flowers, high, for effect: Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs Whiteman 2, Mrs Mitchell 3.
After afternoon tea, members could only admire the pretty garden from the windows, as heavy rain was falling.
