MONDAY WILL BE A HOLIDAY FOR MOST PEOPLE
Not yet out of January housewives are to experience another long week-end and today will be faced with getting supplies to last over three days. All business premises at Whakatane will be closed on Monday to celebrate the anniversary of the Auckland Province. Hotels, milk bars and picture theatres will be open but other shops will close. The post office will be open and will function as usual, but with a minmum of staff. There will not be any postal delivery in the town. The Road Services will be open as usual and the buses will run to the normal timetable. Although the Auckland anniversary actually falls tomdrrow Monday will be celebrated as the holiday. This is the result of recent legislation which states, that where a public holiday falls on a day that would be normally observed as a closed holiday, the next working day will be a holiday. Shops and other businesses will reopen on Tuesday . morning.
