Touched 66,000 Volts And Lived
An Australian linesman at Woodend, Victoria, .recently touched a 66,000-volt main power line, but escaped serious injury. Mr James Lester, aged 28, slipped while sitting on a wooden crossbeam. His hand came in contact with the power line and was fixed to it for about, half a minute. Workmen on a higher crossbearq tied a \
rope around him and pulled him away. He was able to .climb down the pole and a doctor later pronounced him “fit.” Officials of the Victorian State Electricity Commission say that Mr Lester could not have received the full 66,000 volts, and that a fortunate combination of circumstances, including a wooden crossbeam, dry air, and a dry skin, had helped to give him a high degree of insulation. \
