Mt. Egmont Gathering A record was broken recently when 140 people were together on the summit of Mt. Egmont, the occasion being the second annual “open” climb organised by the Taranaki Alpine Club. Conditions werp | perfect and only one climber had to : turn back. The climbers, who were of all ages, included a boy of 12 and a woman who has 11 grandchildren. - Good Bait If herring-fishing boys follow the successful example of a youi’g man who spent a profitable period on one of-the Wanganui wharves, a lot of odd pieces of broken red balloons will be salvaged and used —as bait. Without nieat for bait, but with the necessary line and hooks this young man cut up bits of a red toy balloon and caught fish after fish, using small sections of the rubber on the hooks. The “bait” he employed had a lasting quality not possessed by meat morsels. No Sympathy The two men were painting a suburban roof in Wellington and as one was working gingerly over a particularly step patch a trickle of paint ran under his feet and he crashed forward, off balance. He began sliding fast toward the guttering, beneath which was a 20foot drop. On hands and knees he slid awkwardly, digging his head into the wet paint, and finally he stopped, just at the guttering. But he got no sympathy from his companion, who galled angrily, “Cut it cut. Paint’s too expensive to use for hair oil.”
