TORCH SINGER?

Actress Dorothy Sarnotf continued to sing an emotional scene in the Broadway (New York) musical show Magdalena while her hair was on fire. She was kneeling during the second act when a floodlight over the stage exploded. Pieces of glass and red-hot filament fell on her head. People in the audience screamed and others rose to their feet. Flames and smoke came from Miss Sarnoff’s head, but her voice did not falter. Leading man John Raitt rushed across the stage and beat out the fire with his hands. Miss Sarnoff lost half her hair, and Raitt’s hands were badly blistered. She expects to continue playing the role next week —with a wig.
