WINTER SHOW POWER PLANT PERMIT GRANTED
The Whakatane Winter Show Association has been granted an import licence to purchase and bring to New Zealand the power plant it decided l to obtain from England at a special general meeting some months ago. Provided ships are available to bring it out, it is expected to be landed at Whakatane in about two months time. Driven by a 40 h.p. engine the generator has an output of 25,000 watts, which should be ample for the association’s needs. It will cost about £7BO, a cheap buy when it is considered that similar plants in New Zealand today are being offered for sale at over £2OOO. The decision to purchase the plant was made at a special general meeting of the Association at Whakatane towards the end of last year. It was found that no power was available for a show and it was felt by those present that if a show were not held the association might die. There were some objections to buying the plant but it was finally decided to do so. A final decision on when the show will be held is to be 6 made at the next meeting of the executive of the association.
