Whakatane Takes Two Pats On The Back

Members of the Whakatane Rotary Club were given two additional reasons to be proud of their town on Tuesday evening, when its beauty and potentialities earned it pats on the back from the Swiss Consul, Mr Ernest Theiler, and Mr W. Dreghorn, who has just left to return to England, via Peru. Mr’ Theiler said he had had a good look around this district and was greatly impressed with its potentialities as a tourist centre. “And that, coming from a Swiss,” he smiled, “is indeed something.” It is, at that. Mr Dreghorn, in a letter of farewell to the Club, whose guest and speaker he had been on a number of occasions, described Whakatane as “one of the prettiest places in the Dominion.” He said he had genuinely enjoyed his lectures to Rotarians and his association with them.
