PROPOSAL FOR NEW BOWLING SUB-CENTRE
A proposal from bowling clubs of the western end of the Bay of Plenty, that a new sub-centre should be formed, was supported by 17 delegates out of 22 (representing eleven clubs) who attended a special meeting of representatives of all clubs in the Bay of Plenty Bowling Centre at Te Puke. Tauranga district delegates were Messrs T. Doherty, L. Deacon and A. - Peppercorn of the Tauranga club; F. Todd, H. Swinerd and J. Mills of the Tauranga South club; G. Seed and J. Norman of Mount Maunganui; O'Neill and Stenhouse of Katikati. Other clubs represented were Rotorua, Te Puke, Opotiki, Opotiki Citizens, Taneatua, Whakatane and Ngongotaha. The president of the Whakatane club, Mr Wilson, presided.
The proposal was sponsored by the Tauranga South club, whose delegates pointed out that members of the N.Z. Bowling Council had been asked, when visiting the district recently, if they had any objection to the formation of a sub-centre or an association of clubs as proposed. They had signified their agreement provided that everything was carried out in accordance with the N.Z.B.A. rules.
A report was tendered by Mr Griffiths of Opotiki, who was officially appointed bowl tester for the centre, at the last annual meeting. He regretted being unable to report finality in obtaining all the necessary equipment for the work, owing to lack of material. When this can be completed, he said, he would make regular appointments with the various clubs and do the testing of bowls on each club’s green.
