Destroying Tomato Moths
Dusting or spraying tomatoes with arsenate of lead when the blossom begins to set and a second application in seven to ten days will prevent heavy loss from tomato moths, reports the Victorian Department of Agriculture. Tomato moths also attack sweet corn, maize, potatoes and vegetables. When dusting, apply a 50 per cent arsenate of lead dust. For spraying use 2oz. of arsenate of lead powder in four gallons of water, with or without spreader. Dusting or spraying should be continued for a period of six to eight weeks. If arsenic remains on the fruit at harvest time, it should be wiped or washed off before marketing.
