NEW YEAR’S DANCE AT GALATEA FOR SCHOOL FUNDS

The Galatea School Committee started off the New Year with a very enjoyable dance held in the school on New Year’s night to raise funds for the school. The school was suitably decorated and the district was well represented by a large attendance. Mr Webb, Chairman of the School Committee, acted as M.C. and music was competently provided by Mr M. Jackson at the piano, very ably relieved by Mrs and Miss Walsh. Mrs McNair very kindly obliged with two. songs after supper, both of which were very well received. Novelty dances and prizes were included in the programme, the “Snowball” dance proving to be very popular. In the interval, after the plentiful supper provided by local women, an American auction was held for a large and unusual box of chocolates. This was something of an innovation, but caught everyone’s interest, as was proved by the sum of £5 being raised at the end of the auction. The successful bidder was Mr C. Bidois.

At the close of the evening Mr Webb thanked everyone for their help in making a success of the dance and announced, that the final sum raised for the schopl was £l2 15s 9d.
