Launch Trips Popular What was the most popular event of the carnival held at Whakatane during the Christmas and New Year? Without argument, it was the launch trips arranged to take parties round Whale and the Rurima Islands. Except for the first day there was always a crowd waiting to go/ although some had to be turned away on one or two occasions. Although it rained New Year’s Eve > the party arranged for the day still insisted upon going. So popular were the trips that the committee is considering engaging two launches for next year’s carnival.
