RECORD SHIPMENT OF BLOODSTOCK JUST LANDED

* There has just been- landed at 5 Wellington one of the largest and : most valuable shipments of bloodstock yet brought to the Dominion. ■ This was arranged for by Mr C. E. . Robertson, Manager of the Blood- . stock and Stud Stock Department of Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co. L Ltd., on his recent trip to England, France and Ireland. The landed value of the shipment is estimated at £50,000. It includes sons of the leading stallions of the present day, such as Big Game, top ranking English sire, Nearco, top-ranking sire of England and Ireland, Bois Roussel, French-bred winner of the English Derby, the great stayer, Precipitation, sire of three English classic winners to date, the noted French stayers Mieuxce and Pappageno 11, the English Derby winner, Midday Sun, the young Irish classic sire, His Highness, the sensational young Irish sire, Signal Light, and the younger Irish sire, Dilawarji. It was obvious to the large gathering of racing men and breeders who watched the embarkation that the shipment had been most carefully selected. All the horses showed great quality and excellent conformation and were in splendid order. Greatest interest was shown in the magnificent looking Moorcock, a beautifully marked grey three-year-old colt with a wonderful Arab head. He was bred and raced by the Princess Royal and is by the French stayer and Derby winner Mieuxce. Moorcock who was imported for the Trelawney Stud at Cambridge, like Nizami, descends on the dam’s side from the great sire, The Tetrarch, the mosj; famous of all grey sires. One of the two sons of Bois Roussel, is the three-year-old colt, Tormie, who led into the straight in the recent English Derby, after two earlier wins over a middle distance. He is to join Finis at the Windsor Park Stud at Oamaru. Landacre, a grand type of brown colt, and the first son of the sensational young Irish sire, Signal Light, to come to this part of the world was imported for the Hakano© Stud at Huntly. Fourth of a great bunch of three-year-olds is the racehorse, Nebris, . a brilliant two-year-old winner, bred by Lord Derby. Another young horse of most attractive type is Dick . Whittington, who also is bred in the , purple, as his sire is the famous un- 1 beaten French champion, Nearco, , while his dam, Cheerful Anne, is by “ another unbeaten horse and noted sire also in Bahram. ( There are three yearling colts in the shipment, by Big Game, Bois ] Roussel and Precipitation. Two of these were bred in the National < Stud. (

There are four members of the female sex, first being the four-year-old mare, Midsummer Moon, bred by Mr F. S. Butters at Newmarket. She is by the Derby winner, Midday Sun, who has just been credited with siring the winner of the Cambridgeshire Handicap in Sterope, whose owner as a result won a great fortune of £150,000. Of the yearling fillies, first, a lovely brown with grey hairs is by Dilawarji, a young sire bred by the Aga Khan and who was a good class middle distance winner. This filly which was imported for Mr T. C'oltman, of Wellington, is out of the young Coroado mare, Coriona, whose first two runners are both good winners. Second of the fillies is an exceptionally developed bay by the successful young Irish sire, His Highness, son of Hyperion, a great weight carrier and Cup winner. The dam of the filly, Oversay, is from one of the most brilliant families in the English Stud Book, as she closely descends from the famous mare Lady Brilliant. This filly was engaged in all the classic races and will have great Stud value. Last of the fillies was secured at the Dublin Yearling Sales, a bay by the French bred sire, Pappageno 11, a three-quarter brother to the French Derby winner, Prince Chevalier. This grand filly, whose sire is meeting with great success, is from a famous classic winning family in Ireland, England and France.
