Many Replenish Food Supplies After Long Week-End
To replenish depleted food supplies with fresh provisions after the last long holiday week-end a large crowd of shoppers, composed mainly of housewives, invaded Wkakata*e on Wednesday. Most 1 shops opened although there were quite a large number still closed. Nearly all retailers, especially grocers, butchers, bakers and home cookeries, reported being kept busy until late in the afternoon. Bakers and other shop® that sell bread had to cope with a heavy demand but most customers were satisfied. Butchers had little difficulty in disposing of their frosh meat while grocers were kept going for the greater part of the day. Other retail businesses had a busy time as many people completed the shopping that should have been done before the holidays. Visitors made a difference too, while many campers who had stayed in the district over the holidays bought more supplies before moving on. Many business houses are at present observing annual holidays but it is expected that most will be open by next week. ’
