Young Man Pleads Guilty To Theft: Sent To Prison
Pleading guilty to two charges of theft, a young man, Bennie Mokai, was sentenced to six weeks’ imprisonment on the first charge and convicted and discharged on the second when he appeared before Mr I. B. Hubbard and Mrs D. C. Petty, J’s. P., in the Whakatane Police Court on Friday. • For the police, Constable R. F. Julian said that the, accused stole a tennis racquet on November 13 and hid it. It was later stolen from him but was subsequently recovered in a damaged state. On the second charge of stealing a waterproof canvas golf jacket, the property of Alan Thomas Bridger, Whakatane, Constable Julian said that, on May 22 Bridger parked his car outside the Whakatane Hotel and left it for about 10 minutes. When he returned he found the jacket had been taken from the back seat. Accused, when interviewed by the police, was found to be wearing the jacket, which is jnow in an almost useless state. He admitted stealing it.
