Taneatua W.l.'s Christmas Meeting
The Christmas decorations arranged by Mrs K. Tebbutt gave the supper room of the Taneatua hall a festive appearance for the final Institute meeting of 1948. Mrs Grey presided over a .fair attendance. The balance sheet of the recent show was presented and showed - a credit balance. Mrs Grey was appointed to attend a group meeting to be held in Opotiki on January 20, and it was decided to enter a Court at the A. and P. Show in Whakatane on February 19. Mrs Grey was nominated for the position of Federation President and Mrs Gardner as executive member. Members were informed that the Boys’ Band from Whakatane would be playing Xmas Carols in the street on Sunday evening and it was decided to serve supper to them. A very enjoyable social programme followed the business. The roll call, a butter or sugar economy hint, brought forward some bright ideas. Members were intensely interested in a reading by Mrs N. Semmens entitled “Glutamic Acid, a new brain food for dull children.” A quiz competition arranged by Mrs Bennett, was won by Mrs Gardner. A Xmas sketch entitled “Babouska” was staged by Mesdames McDonald, K. Tebbutt, T. Anderson, Gardner and Bennett and very well received. Christmas carols led by members of the Glee Club and in which all members joined were very enjoyable. Competitions were judged by Mesdames Ricketts and N. Semmens. Results:— Best flower:. Mrs Grey 1, Mrs Baikie 2, Mrs Bennett 3. Best -vegetable: Mrs McDonald 1. Last minute Xmas gift: Mrs Gardner I, Mrs Grey 2, Mx-s Frost 3.
