FOR YOUR BEAUTY
Cleanliness Is Necessary (By the Department of Health) It is not necessary to be a beauty, or to spend a lot of money on clothes and cosmetics, to be, really attractive. That elusive thing, that drawing power or attraction, is founded on poise and good carriage, a vitality compounded from bright eyes, glossy hair, and clear skin, all surely based on daily cleanliness and freedom from unpleasant body odour. Girls must make it a cardinal rule to be Wholesome and clean in a personal sense. • Black finger nails, a dirty neck, an odour of stale perspiration negatives any claim to attractiveness. Your first job is to look clean and be clean. You will get along all right then at school and at business, and will carry your cleanliness into your own clean home in due course. This is founded on the daily bath. Whether you take this daily cleaning bath or shower in the morning or evening is a personal matter. It
involves soaping well, rinsing • in plenty of warm water and drying briskly. This foundation of attractiveness will give you poise for you will feel surer of yourself when there is a sheen on your hair, when you have neat clean fingernails and a fresh cleanliness about your body. Underclothes need frequent changes if you want to eliminate body odour. They take up a considerable amount of perspiration, worn next to the skin, and would spoil the effect of daily bathing if worn too long. Your top clothes—frocks, sweaters, skirts and so on should go to the dry cleaners as often as you can afford it. Airing them thoroughly between wearing times helps to keep them sweet. Clothes are often responsible for a lack of sweetness. If you want highlights in your hair, it will need regular brushing and regular shampooing. An oily scalp will need a shampoo weekly, a dry one every two weeks. Don’t forget to wash the hairbrush, too, every time you wash your hair. Bad breath is fatal to attractiveness and may be caused in food particles between the teeth, so brush them thoroughly twice a day. Sparkling teeth and shining 'hair must be there for real attractiveness.
