ROAD SERVICES BUS LEAVES ROAD AT LAKE ROTOITI

There were no injuries or damage caused when the 1 p.m. Roto.ruaWhakatane road services bus left the road at “Collision Bend,” by Lake Rotoiti, at about 2.30 on Friday afternoon. It was not off the road for long and was soon able to proceed.

The road is under repair at “Collision Bend,” and when the bus arrived it had to follow a bulldozer. After making slow headway the bulldozer stopped, and to pass it the bus had to reverse before going forward. The driver backed but apparently misjudged his position and the bus went over the bank, hanging at a very steep angle. Containing a full load of twelve passengers, most of whom became panic-stricken, the bus was emptied and, with the help of workmen and the bulldozer it was soon hauled back on the road. When it arrived at Whakatane it was found that the bus was not damaged and it continued through to Opotiki.
