WHAKATANE W.I.

The Whakatane Women’s Institute held its December meeting last Tuesday, Mrs Print presiding over a.fair attendance. The golden thread, Westminster Abbey, was given by Mrs Stewart. The entertainment for the afternoon was taken over by Mrs King Jnr. As it was the Xmas meeting members’ children were provided with afternoon tea. A Christmas tree was gaily decorated and each child received a present. Children giving items wer§: Carol King and Diane Thompson, piano duet; Marie Armstrong, song; Kevin Lysaght, piano accordion; Barry Dixon, piano’ solo. The Arts and Crafts stall did quite a brisk business, all articles being hand-made. Competition results:— Xmas stocking: Mrs Mortenson 1, Mrs Comer 2. . Native and wild flowers: Mrs Stewart 1, Mrs Fennell 2. Mince meat pies: Mrs Fennell 1.
