INSTITUTE’S XMAS PARTY AT OHOPE
Some fifty children were lavishly entertained by the Ohope Women's Institute at an outdoors ■Christmas party at the Ohope picnic ground on Saturday afternoon. ■Central attraction, second only in Importance to' the eating part of the -entertainment so far as the children were concerned, was the handsomely decorated Christmas Tree, and the thrill of the day for the small guests was the arrival of ■Santa Claus himself, attended by a -fairy on a sledge drawn by a horse in festively decorated harness. He found a gift on the tree for each •of the children present. Races, a treasure hunt, games, and free ice creams made it altogether a memorable occasion. Mrs Sorenson (president) and a -committee comprising Mesdames Danks, Critchley, Dickson, Armstrong, Campbell, Kerr and Miss •Stewart had charge of the arrangements on the day, but the whole Institute worked hard on the preparations, Mesdames W. Clark, Thomassen and White taking a prominent part in decorating the tree. 'Twenty-nine in all served the afternoon tea. The president said she wanted to thank all those members and others who had helped, particularly Mr Sutton (Santa Claus) his fairy (Janet Stevenson) and Mr Bluett who lent the horse and sledge. Mrs Coker was presented with a gift in recognition of her effort in raising funds. - . '' The competition for a hula doll was won by Jill Critchley.
