Some of the matters dealt with by the executive of the .Whakatane Chamber of Commerce during the ye'ar: Health Stamp Campaign record sales £llß, Improvements to Main Highways both in maintenance and capital works, Increased Power Quota, Flood alarm and precautions, Commercial Building Permits, United Nations Children’s Appeal, Vermin Control, Extended Postal facilities, Murupara to Edgecumbe Railway Link, Printing of Rural Delivery Lists, Extension of Borough Bus Services; Strand right of way and Quay Street improvements, Food Parcels for Britain, Meteorological Records, Refuse service, Improved access to Ohope. “In most of these matters good progress has been made but in all cases they will be persued to a satisfactory conclusion,” comments the president, Mr R. T. Morpeth, in the annual report he will present at tomorrow night’s meeting. “The foregoing list of activities is not by any means complete, but gives some indication of the matters dealt with by your executive. Whakatane as a growing town needs an active Chamber of Commerce and it is the duty of very business man to support the organisation. To those who served on the executive I tender my thanks, to the Press we pay a tribute, and to the Borough Council we express our thanks for the free use of their Chambers.” Earlier in the report he mentions that numerically the Chamber is strong, but appeals to members for more active support by attendance at general meetings and prompt payment of subscriptions. He notes with pleasure that Murupara’s membership is well maintained, that regular meetings are held there and much good work done for that district.
