General Standard High, Says Judge
“As could be expected with a meeting of prize winners from individual schools the general standard was high.” Mr W. H. Mandeno, consulting officer to the New Zealand Dairy Board and one of the judges at the Rangitaiki Calf Club Association’s field day, commented - yesterday. “Kinder weather would probably have enabled a demonstration to be given on the various points of a calf ir\ the children’s judging event. This would have greatly added to the educational aspect, and it is expected that in future this part of the day will be of special interest to the children. “Several problems apparently confront the Calf Club movement and it is pleasing to learn that a Council is to draft uniform rules, which it is hoped will emphasise the work of the boys and girls more than the calf itself. An appreciation •of the family background of the calf is of as great value to the exhibitor as its appearance. Space on an entry form might well be given for a short description .of parents and sisters of the calf which nowadays is possible with as great accuracy in grade herds as in pedigree.”
