Taneatua Defeats Whakatane
In the first round of a series of three for the Shield, Taneatua, by winning the most games and gaining the highest aggregate, for the day have a good chance of regaining the Shield. The ‘Colts’ team from Taneatua was also successful in defeating the ‘Colts’ of Whakatane in a Feathers match. W. Wilson, McCarthy, Loane, 8 v Mair, Goodhew, Rixon, Murphy, 27. Aggregate: Taneatua 88, Whakatane 65. Feathers game: Christensen, C. McKenzie, Atkinson, W. Rivett, 18 v Shaw, Norman, Tebbutt, Reeves, 20. Club games: Richardson, Cantrell, F£ellyar, Warner, 19 v Bullot, Latta, Butler, Caisley, 19; R. C. Wilson, H. King, A. Intermediate Singles Four rounds of the intermediate champion singles were played on Saturday. Of the 18 who started off the day, only six survived at the end of the fourth round, these being the two 4ifers, Merito and Duley, and the one lifers,- Campbell and Stewart; E. J. Bell and J. Murphy. The final rounds will be played next Saturday at 9.30 a.m.
