Splendid Physique Of British Children
“We were delighted to see the splendid physique of the British children —even in the poorest parts of London, they have sturdy legs and bright eyes,” said Mrs Ben Roberts, wife of a former Minister of Agriculture, who has returned after a visit to Britain with her husband. “We saw splendid evidence of the care given by the State to the health of the children, and their general intelligence is above the average,” said Mrs Roberts She visited the children’s homes supported by New Zealand through the London Save the Cruldren Fund, and was delighted to see how well the funds were administered, and to find that so many organisations were receiving food parcels from the Dominion. “We had the privilege of seeing some parcels opened at an ‘Over 60 Club’,” said Mrs Roberts, “when' my husband conveyed the good wishes of the New Zealand people.” The method of dispersal of food parcels was excellent, she said. Fat remained the most -acceptable item. Mrs Roberts paid a special tritribute to the women of Britain, “Wherever we went, we found them patiently queueing, and even managing to be cheerful about it, and in their * homes making do with great thrift and ingenuity,” she said
