Pairs Competition Tomorrow
The handicap pairs of the Whakatane Bowling Club were continued last Saturday and at the end of play, only four teams were left in the compettiion, all being one lifers. The teams still in are: — Warner and Thompson; Dixon and Cockerell; Good and Compton; Os-' wald and Bullot. The semi-final will be played at 9.45 tomorrow morning and the final at 1.30. Percentage fours results:— Atkinson, R. F. Smith, D. Butler, A. King 11, v Breckon, C. White, A. White, Drube 17; Duley, Head Puddick, Caisley 15, v Stewart, Murphy, Pearson, Howat 33; Drayson, E. Bell, McCarthy, Hollis 11, v Weeber, Sims, J. Wilson, Coates 22; Christensen, Salmon, Alexander, Smoljan 13, v Campbell, R. Wilson, Grant, Anderson 28. OPEN TOURNAMENT First open tournament of this season was played on Sunday, teams coming from Te Puke, Taneatua and Opotiki. Bad weather delayed play until 11 a.m., but seven games were played during the day. The successful section winners were:— Griffiths (Opotiki Citizens), Parkinson (Opotiki Citizens), Newall (Opotiki), R. Murphy (Whakatane). In the semi-final, Murphy defeated Parkinson and Newall defeated Griffiths. Newall’s team was successful in winning the final game against Murphy’s team, the score being 5-2. The runners-up were, W. Rivett, C. Hollis, G. Oswald, R. Murphy (s). INTERMEDIATE DRAW: Players in the intermediate championship which will commence at 9 a.m. tomorrow, are:— Martin v Merito, Murphy v Weeber, Stewart v Campbell, Morpeth v C. Butler, Atkinson vW.
