South Africans May Adopt Decimal Coins
South Africa may adopt the decimal money system. Mr J. J. Becklake, ex-director of the South African Mint, recommended the change in a report to the Union Government recently. The changeover would mean a new florin (100 cents), a 50-cent .piece, the size of a shilling, silver 20 and 10-cent pieces, and bronzy coins for one, two, and four cents—with the cent wprth just under a farthing. Advantages claimed are simplification' and more accurate payment for small purchases.
