Artesian Water Located Artesian water in the Opouriao Valley has been located on the property of Mr A. Torrie. The first artesian water yet'found in the area, it has been tapped at a depth of 80 feet. Crystal clear, the* supply is reported to be very plentiful. “Peeping Toms” Again “Peeping Toms” have been active lately in. Whakatane, causing much anoyance in many homes. They have even, penetrated the grounds ’of the hospital, where members of the staff have had annoying experiences. One resident has threatened to make a real example -of any “Tom” he may find on his property. 146 Patients Admitted One hundred- and forty-six patients were admitted to the Whakatane Hospital, of which 103 were females, during October stated the medical superintendent, Dr. E. T. Dawson, to the Hospital Board yesterday. There were 143 discharges, four deaths and 50 births. By the end of October a total of 91 patients remained in the hospital, 39 of whom were males. “A Bit Swamped” Christchurch Rotarians felt they would like to do something about sending food parcels to Britain, so they wrote to British Rotary Clubs asking for a few names of deserving cases to whom parcels could be sent. Back came a list of 9,000 names and addresses! Asking the Whakatane Rotary Club if its members would help out, the Christchurch secretary admitted his,. Club had been “a bit swamped.” Whakatane Rotarians decided to contribute on the basis of one parcel per member. “A Serious Thing” This Christmas Carnival is a serious' thing, and should be regarded as really important to the town, Mr H. G. Warren, President of the Rotary Club, told Rotarians at this week’s gathering of the Club. He appealed to members for their full backing in raising the necessary funds and organising the carnival. Though the details are not yet available for publication, it is understood . the programme being planned will be similar to the 'one which had to be abandoned on account of the poliomyelitis outbreak last year.
