Annual Inspection Of Whakatane St. John Brigade
A large 4 crowd attended the annual reinspection of the Whakatane district St. John’s Ambulance Brigades at Whakatane on Saturdaynight. Members were present from the whole district, including Waimana and newly resuscitated Edgecumbe divisions. The inspection was carried out by the Commissioner of the Auckland Centre, Mr H. D. Cobb. Commissioner Cobb complimented the division on its high standard of work during the past year and said he was glad to see the movement so strong in the district. He then traced the history of the St. John Brigade since its inception in 1099 to the present day. He thanked various brigades for their service and expressed his hope that Edgecumbe would re-establish itself as it was. before the war. Other speakers were Mrs Cobb. District Lady Commissioner, Mr E. Ramson, Whakatane Brigade Superintendent, and Mr A. J. Canning, president of the Whakatane Association, who welcomed Mr and Mrs Cobb. Commissioner Cobb presented medallions and certificate. to various members and Warrants of Commission to Cadet Superintendent W. K. Abbott of the Whakatane Brigade, and Commissioner H. B. Moen, Paper Mills Brigade. Following the inspection musical items were held and supper was served by women of the various divisions.
