Taneatua District Citizens Farewell Popular Residents
The most representative and the largest gathering seen at Taneatua for some time met at • the Taneatua Hall to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs T. E. Hamerton, who are leaving the district. Mr Hamerton has practised law in Taneatua for 27 years. The evening was spent in dancing to the very excellent music of Harrison’s orchestra with a' much appreciated extra by Mr G. Print. After a delicious home-made supper had been served Mr and Mrs Hamerton were escorted to a seat on- the stage where the various speakers were assembled. Mr W. Alexander spoke representing the citizens of the district, and presented a cheque, Mr N. Reid for the tennis club, with presentation, Mr Burnett for the County Council, Mr R. McGougan represented the golf club and made a presentation and Mr G. Fogerty made a presentation on behalf of the committee of the National Party. Each of the speakers mentioned the great assitance Mr and 'Mrs Hamerton had given to every cause which had claimed their interest. Mention was also made of the many instances where ,Mr Hamerton’s legal advice had been most helpful. At the conclusion of the addresses the guests of honour were accorded musical' honours.
Mr Hamerton, in his reply, expressed his own and Mrs Hamerton’s deep gratitude for the evening tendered them and for the beautiful gifts.
