United’s Great First Innings Against Opotiki: 386 For 6, Declared

Qn Saturday Whakatane United travelled to Opotiki and played the local representatives. United won the toss and elected to bat. Spring-McKerizie opened the innings and, after a quiet start, the runs began to came freely and the partnership was worth 120 before McKenzie retired with 58 to his credit. Chamberlain joined Spring, , who was now scoring rapidly and batting- beautifully. He l’eached his century just before lunch. * After the adjournment Spring attacked the bowling and ran to 166 before being caught on the fence. His innings included .five 6’s and 22 4’s. Chamberlain was bowled by Warren and Le Pine then came in and set about the bowling. Scoring boundaries to all parts of the field, he was unlucky to be bowled when 93. . Wyatt retired after scoring 26 nicely and the innings was declared closed with the score board reading 6 for. 386. i At stumps Opotiki had lost eight wickets for 82.
