New Moderator Of General Assembly Is Keen Naturalist
The Rt. Rev. Cecil J. Tocker, who was installed as Moderator of 'the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand at St. Andrew’s Church, Wellington, last night, is widely known throughout New Zealand as a preacher and naturalist. He was born at Greytown in the Wairarapa, in 1885., His university work was done at Victoria College and he later passed through Knox College Theological Hall. Mr Tocker holds the record among active Presbyterian ministers for the length of his pastorate in the one congregation. After periods in Geraldine and St. Luke’s Auckland, he was inducted into St. Paul’s, Invercargill, in 1926, where he has been ever since. He is widely known in th esouth for his regular newspaper articles and radio talks and is an authority on bird life and fly fishing. Professor A. H. Tocker, of Canterbury College, is a brother.
